First Look: Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt

First Look: Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt

Both the brains and the brawn.

You know that feeling when you left the door unlocked all night?

I always notice when I’m eating my morning bowl of cereal; my heart immediately drops into my stomach every time. True, we probably don’t have much to worry about (we live in a safer community out in the country), but all I can imagine is some weirdo letting himself in to watch me sleep for hours on end. If I ever find unusual shoe prints just outside of my door, I’m going to lose my mind.

The solution to my paranoia would be a system that allows me to lock and check the status of my door, no matter if I’m laying in bed or miles from home. That’s where the Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt comes in.

The Schlage Connect is a hardcore (ANSI Grade 1 certified) deadbolt that unlocks with a normal key, with a secret code through its touchscreen, or with a command from a Z-Wave compatible home automation hub. It can store over 30 codes for use with its touchscreen, making it a fantastic solution for big families and all the times your forget your keys in the car. While it doesn’t have cool Bluetooth unlocking like the Kwikset Kevo, I like that I can still get in the house if I don’t have my keys or iPhone nearby.

My favorite feature? The Schlage Connect includes a 90db(!) siren that can alert you to tampering and chime every time someone enters or exits. It’s like an extra home security system built into your door!

The Schlage Connect can be found for around $200 in a variety of styles and colors (I like the “Century” style in Aged Bronze).

I hope to get my hands on one soon… If definitely looks like a contender for the best smart lock.

  • I love how these connect to the Wink system, and especially that their integration recently became deeper – with the ability to set entry codes via the Wink App. Super cool for us Vacation Rental owners. Would be interested in seeing you add “long term” reviews, or even just add comments with long term observations on what you like and don’t like after using these products over time.

    • I’m actually waiting for our new place to be completed right now, after which you’ll see many more in depth reviews and follow ups on all of these products.
