Playing the Percentages: Making Your House 80% More Relaxing

The following is a contribution from another author.

It’s not the easiest thing, but it’s gotta be a priority. Making your home relaxing is something that can be achieved in numerous ways, but when you’ve got a place that is either in the middle of being renovated, or there is just so much junk dotted around, it can be a struggle to evoke that relaxing atmosphere. We need to ensure that our homes are as relaxing as possible, so let’s try and increase the relaxation quota by 80%!

20% – The Bedroom

If you can’t change the whole house, then you need to change your bedroom! While you can easily find ways to make your bedroom more spacious, by removing electronic items and the like, if you aren’t comfy in your bed, this will have an impact on your waking hours. If you sleep on an old mattress, go and find a mattress store that gives you numerous options so you can find the right one. The bedroom is the first place to start if you don’t feel relaxed in your at all.

40% – The Ambiance

There are some simple ways to alter the ambiance of the home. As well as decluttering the entire home, you can find ways to evoke a sense of calm in the style and aesthetics of the house as a whole. Color is vital. Iif you like dark and vibrant colors, know these do not work well at creating a relaxing frame of mind; consider what visual touchstones calm you down in other ways. Flowers could be one little item to implement, or creating artistic focal points helps you focus on something that’s not a huge pile of mess.

60% – A Few Simple Rules

Once you’ve decided on the best styles and items to pepper throughout your home, it’s now time to make a few rules to live by. These don’t have to be set in stone, but something as simple as removing electronics from the bedroom could see an increase in a positive mindset. Even something like quality family time in the kitchen could make your home a more relaxing place to be, because you are taking those opportunities to build bridges in an emotional sense.

80% – Making It Part Of Your Life

Once you’ve implemented all of these approaches, it’s about making these habits stick. It’s easier when you’ve made aesthetic changes, but need to make the other parts indispensable to your life; you have to make habits form, and stay around. This last 20% is the key to establishing momentous changes in any part of your life, and you can apply this, not just to your interiors and decorations, but your overall attitude to life. If you can’t go home and feel relaxed, where can you go?

We all feel a different attitude towards our home, and if we hate how a certain room looks, or we are just generally unhappy with the appearance of our house, the last 20% is about the initiative in ourselves. Because if we don’t decide to do anything about it, and everything else will be for nothing.
