4 Reasons Why You Should Cancel Your Cable Subscription Right Now

The following contribution is from another author.

In the past, cable TV was the best way to get access to the latest movies and TV shows. But if you’re still using cable these days, you really need to get with the times. The way that content is produced and consumed has changed a lot in the last few years with the advent of streaming services and now, cable is actually the worst way to watch TV. These are some of the big reasons why you need to ditch your cable subscription right away.

It’s Too Expensive

The biggest reason to get rid of cable is that it’s just way too expensive. The cost varies a lot depending on the package that you have but if you want all of the best movies and you’re a sports fan too, you can expect to pay a lot of money. In fact, the average cable bill is a massive $217.42, which is higher than all of the other household bills combined.  When you compare that to the cost of the average streaming service, you could afford to buy multiple subscriptions and not even come close to the cost of cable.

Cable Channels Are Available Elsewhere

You might be thinking, it’s worth it because you get access to HBO or AMC so you can watch your favorite shows like The Walking Dead. People don’t want to give up on cable because they don’t want to miss out on their favorite content. The thing is, you can watch AMC without cable, and the same goes for a lot of other channels too. Many of them have their own streaming services and they’re also available on cable alternatives that are way cheaper. So, if you are only sticking with cable because there are certain shows you want to watch, you’re wasting your money. Also, a fine alternative is checking with your local aerial operators on how to get Freeview.

Streaming Services Are Taking Over Content Production

Cable channels used to get all of the best content and if you wanted to watch the biggest shows of the moment, you needed cable. Streaming services were great for watching old movies and TV shows after they had been on, but they weren’t offering anything new. But that’s all changing because streaming services are pumping huge amounts of money into content production. Services like Apple TV and Netflix are making movies and TV shows with huge Hollywood stars in them and they are starting to compete with cinema and cable releases when it comes to awards. Netflix, in particular, is at the forefront of the documentary genre, releasing massive hits like Tiger King, for example.

You Get Control Over Your Content

A lot of people end up paying for cable because there are a few select channels they want to watch. But there’s no way of only getting the channels you want without also paying for a load of stuff that you never watch. With streaming services, you get more control because you only pay for the service you want. If everything that you want to watch is on Netflix, you don’t need to pay for the rest of the services. But if you decide you want to add one or two further down the line, you can. However, the biggest benefit is that you can cancel your rolling contract whenever you like if you decide you no longer want to watch anything else on that service. Canceling cable is a different story and plenty of people know the frustration of trying to get out of their contract

It’s surprising that cable is still going because there are a lot of downsides without many benefits at all. If you’re still paying for a subscription, you should seriously consider canceling it.

  • To be honest, I haven’t watched TV in a very long time, so I don’t have any subscription at all. The only thing I’m interested in now is sports broadcasts, as I bet on sports. But I found a great site https://www.dimers.com which has everything I need to get information about betting and successfully make money from it.
