They say that some like it hot, but in the last few years, that’s really been put to the test. Planet Earth’s hottest years on record can all be found within the last decade. Here in Australia, we matched the former 1960 record in 2022 with a scorching 50.7 °C, and the mercury continues to rise. Now more than ever it’s critical that we prepare our homes for what’s to come!
It’s time to have your clunky old air conditioning system replaced with a new, colder, and more energy-efficient ducted air conditioning unit that will save you both discomfort and money! It’s an investment in your health and well-being that will keep you cool and calm as the heat rises.
Even with a great, state-of-the-art air conditioning system in place, there are still things you can do to help it out:
Ceiling fans – Installing ceiling fans is a great way to take some of the pressure off of your air conditioner. Moving air makes you feel cooler, so adding a bit of a breeze to the room can really help on those hot, hot days. Plus, they look pretty posh, giving your home a kind of Casablanca vibe!
Exhaust fans – Your bathroom probably already has one, and maybe your kitchen does, but what about the family room and bedrooms? As temperatures in the house inevitably rise you can blow some of that hot air outside, helping to lower temperatures within.
Portable A/C units – Portable air conditioning units are a great way to supplement your main system. Strategically placed in the most used areas of the house, you will have some extra cool air where and when you need it most. Most models are on wheels so they can be moved around with ease, reporting directly to the hot spots! Click here for more ideas on how to get the most out of A/C tech.
Programmable thermostats – This handy bit of tech can save you a bunch of money in energy costs. If you’ve gone from the house all day, just program the thermostat to automatically lower the temperature several degrees whilst you’re on your way home so things will be nice and cool for you when you get there. This will make things comfortable for without wasting electricity (and money!) cooling an empty house all day!
Heat-reducing film – Windows let the sunshine in, which is great, but they also let the heat in, too. Around 30% of a home’s ambient heat enters via windows. A really simple solution to this problem is to apply reflective, heat-reducing window film to help regulate the temperature. It’s quick and easy to install and can make a big difference. Plus, it keeps warm air inside during the cold months!
Close the blinds – in the day’s hottest hours, just remember to open them again later!
