Do You Really Need to Move House?

The following contribution is from another author.

Moving house can be expensive, stressful, and frankly exhausting, especially when you have little ones to look after! That is why it can be shocking to me how many families chose to do this when they don’t actually have to. In fact, there may be other less costly and calmer ways of getting what you need from your current property, so before you move, read the following post.

We need more space!

One of the most influential factors that makes people believe they need to move is the desire for more space. After all, it can be a struggle to manage when you have three kids, but only two bedrooms!

Of course, what you need to remember here is that there are things you can do to your current property to create more room that means you don’t have to pack up every single item that you own.

One option is to use the space you have better, by clearing out unnecessary clutter and getting space-efficient furniture like modular sofas and bunk beds that will turn your home into a more efficient space for your whole family.

Alternatively, you may wish to consider converting space that is currently going unused into a function room. Something that many people use loft conversions to achieve. The benefit of which is that you don’t just get more space but can create fantastic light and views with skylight windows as well.

Finally, if the other options aren’t viable, you could always consider extending your home and building an extra room or adding a conservatory to create more space. Of course, this is likely to be longer and more expensive project than the another suggested, but it can still be less hassle than moving, and it can add value to your property too, which is good news when you do decide to sell.

We want to move to a better area.

Many people cite the reason that they want to move is the desire to live in a better area. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this, but before you pack up your whole life and settle somewhere else, you need to ask yourself whether there is anything you can do to improve the place you currently live.

I’m not just talking about applying a lick of paint here either, but getting involved in the community, joining a neighborhood watch, or helping those that live around you. The reason being that by doing this you can make the place you currently live in a better area, and so fulfill this goal without having to go through the cost and stress of a move.

We want something more modern.

Finally, when it comes to moving just so you can have a more modern home, you need to ask yourself whether the outer shell really matters that much. After all, it is entirely possible to create a cutting edge, smart home in any age and type of building.

Yes, it may be fun to live in a more contemporary design, but you need to weigh this up against all the stress of moving before you decide to take the plunge.
