You’ve got loads of potential smart home features you can install, like doorbell cameras, app-controlled heating, voice assistants, and all the techy things that feel modern and impressive… So is that what we’re talking about?
Not quite.
There are actually other ‘smart’ features that don’t come with an app, but they’re important and if you didn’t have them in your home, you’d probably notice and you’d probably miss them. In fact, some of the best home improvements are the ones that just make life easier, and with that in mind, keep reading to find out more.
Drainage
Most people aren’t going to spend a lot of time thinking about their drainage. Actually, most people aren’t going to spend any time thinking about their drainage if we’re honest. But it can cause issues, and it’s worth checking out to make sure nothing’s wrong – if you’ve ever had puddles building up near your front door or water sitting on the driveway, for example, you’ll know how quickly it can become quite a hassle.
Good drainage is an invisible upgrade that protects your home over time, and if you need something that fits a specific outdoor space, you can even tailor your trench drain so it works properly for your layout rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all solution to things. That can save a lot of damage and stress.
Insulation
Insulation is another feature no one really talks about, but everyone definitely benefits from in a variety of different ways.
A well-insulated home is going to stay warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and on top of that it makes heating and cooling a lot more manageable and it won’t have to work so hard. It also helps reduce noise, and that’s all part of being comfortable as well.
Of course, you don’t see insulation once it’s in, but you’ll certainly feel that it’s there no matter what time of year it happens to be.
Windows
True, windows aren’t technically invisible, but it’s unlikely you’ll pay much attention to yours, so they may as well be. However, they’re vitally important because good quality windows help with temperature, noise, and energy efficiency, and if your home feels draughty or your room are hard to heat, it could be your windows are at least part of that reason.
Upgrading them can make the entire home feel much better, even if it doesn’t actually change what it looks like (a like-for-like installation with better glazing and fitting means nothing’s going to change to the eye, but everything can change when it comes to comfort).
Ventilation
The smartest home features aren’t the impressive ones that talk to you or do things by themselves – often it’s the practical things you don’t really think about, and ventilation is exactly that kind of feature.
It helps prevent damp, mould, and stale air, especially in kitchens and bathrooms, and in the end, a home that can breathe properly feels fresher and healthier, and it reduces long-term maintenance issues as well.
