When you’re ready to move home, you always need to make sure that you know what you’re looking for. A lot can go into this, and many of us have a set list of requirements we’re looking for in a new home. But what matters the most? Here’s what you need to bear in mind.
1. The Location
For many people, the location will always be the most important thing. After all, you will often fall in love with a certain area or choose it based on being close to good schools and within a reasonable commuting distance to your job. If location matters to you the most, make sure that you only focus on one set area or a shortlist of possible areas that you could see yourself living in.
2. The Size and Space
Then we have the size of the house itself. Ideally, you will know how many bedrooms you’re looking for. This could be based on your current budget and what you can afford, or the number of rooms you need for your family in general. You may also want to look for a certain size squarefootage of house, or for something that you can grow into over time as a family.
3. The Design and Style
Another really important element will always be the look of the house. Even if your non-negotiables seem to be the size and the location, you will be influenced by how a house looks. You may even have something specific in mind that you really, really want! But that can be hard to find! This is the reason a lot of people turn to a custom home builder to get the place they want! That way, they can design and build the whole thing to the spec they want, meaning that they don’t have to compromise on anything they’re looking for!
4. The Potential
However, if you don’t really like the idea of building your own thing, you may be more drawn to finding something that has potential. It might be that you like the area or the size of the plot. Or it could be that you love the look of the house as it is. Either way, growing into a home and looking to adjust it over time to your needs could be perfect for you. That way, you can put your own stamp on things and turn the purchase into your perfect home over the coming years!
5. The Local Area and Amenities
Finally, there’s also the local area to think about. This goes beyond the idea of where the house is located specifically, along with things like schools and your commute to work. You also need to make sure that you have everything to hand or that there are things nearby that are important to you. From a local shop to grab milk from to a tennis club to a park to walk the dog, there are major local amenities that you may be forgetting about that are huge parts of your everyday life!
