It’s Time To Add a Sense of Fun to Your Decor

It’s okay to admit it. The times in which we’re living seem pretty bleak right now. All around the world people are mourning those they’ve lost of the current pandemic. Legions more are bemoaning the fact that they’ve lost their jobs or at the very least some of their income. We’re all missing certain people and places desperately. We’re all trying to make the best of our situations by making the best of our homes. And while we’re starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel, it’s safe to say that we can still expect to spend a lot of time indoors for the foreseeable future.

With that in mind, now is the perfect time to be bold, take risks and experiment with your decor. To think about how you can make your interiors not only match your personality but lift your mood. How can you inject a sense of playfulness and fun into your interior design and ensure that everywhere you look you see something that makes you smile?

We have a few suggestions…

Think carefully about your use of color

You may be forgiven for assuming that color = fun. But this can be something of an over-simplification. Carefully used splashes of color can add a sense of fun as well as adding depth and dynamism to your decor. Too much color, however, and your aesthetic may look a little too visually busy. This can create a discordant look which actually makes it difficult to relax. Think carefully about the relationships between colors and textures in your design concept.

Add a contemporary twist to old classics

Everyone has a different sense of fun. For some it’s bold colors, enticing textures and avant garde furnishings. For others, it’s a healthy sense of post modern wryness. Like a contemporary spin on a traditional classic. Take these examples of faux taxidermy, for example. They stay just on the right side of naturalism, and are just bold and brash enough in their appearance. There are many ways in which you can do this. Enjoy experimenting with a few carefully chosen and strategically placed items.

Some people love to collect souvenirs for bygone eras. Those can fit right into contemporary decors given the right presentation. Using sleek lighting and adding industrial design style touches can give you that vintage-contemporary cross.

Did someone say framed movie posters?

Who doesn’t love movies, right? And if you think that displaying your love of your favorite movies ended when you left your college dorm, think again! You may not be sticking them to your walls with Tack-It anymore, but you can still show your love of childhood favorites or classics you discovered in adulthood on your walls.

Framing your movie posters can combine a sense of fun with a little touch of class.

Go retro

Finally, a few carefully chosen vintage affectations can really make your aesthetic pop. From old vinyl records on your walls to retro tech like an old fashioned radio or TV. Many people also like to frame vintage ads in spaces like the bathroom or kitchen. There are really no wrong answers here.

Any of the above can be adopted into your home’s aesthetic according to your taste. You can add as much, or as little, as you like. However, taking the time to inject some fun into your decor can help you to fall a little deeper in love with your home… right when you need it most.
