When you’re preparing to move home you’ll have plenty of chores on your to-do list. Packing can take a long while, however, there are things you can do to speed up the process and reduce the stress. For a little help with your packing, check out these simple ideas.
Consider item weight
When you’re packing your items, it’s helpful to consider the weight. It’s best to pack the heavier items in the bottom of the boxes, and then put your lighter items on the top. By doing so you’ll ensure that none of your items get squashed, plus you’ll make the best use of space and ensure that your boxes are easier to carry.
You can also consider the weight of your items when you’re loading your truck. The heavier boxes should be packed at the front of the truck, to ensure the correct balance. Of course, if you’re hiring a removal company they’ll take care of the loading for you. The likelihood is that you’ll need a removal service, especially for interstate moving.
Keep items organized
When you’re packing your belongings you’ll need to keep your items organized. Make sure that you don’t pack objects from different rooms all in one box. It’s best to stick to different boxes for different rooms. It’s far easier to pack and unpack when you do this, (you’ll save yourself time and stress)!
Label every box
Ensure that you label all your boxes, use two labels, one label describing what’s inside the box, and another stating which room it goes in. Again, this will ensure a streamlined and stress-free move. You can also number your boxes and write up an inventory of everything you have inside. An inventory can help you to keep track of your items, and check that nothing goes missing during the moving process. To create an inventory apps like Home Inventory can help.
Tape everything up
Tape your boxes securely, you’ll want your boxes to be sturdy (so there’s no chance that they will break)! You’ll need to purchase good-quality boxes to begin with, but with a few wraps of tape, you can make your boxes extra secure. With the right packing materials, you’ll know that your items are protected and safe.
Protect fragile items
When you’re packing fragile items you should wrap these items in protective cloth, tissue paper, or bubble wrap. Make sure that there are no gaps between fragile items, you can bundle them together, and use light cloth to fill the spaces. Do not put fragile boxes underneath other boxes, (unless these boxes contain very light items). Ensure that your fragile boxes are labeled as ‘fragile, handle with care.’ When you’re choosing your removal company remember to ask about insurance options, insurance may be provided or you might need to get cover yourself.
Before you start packing, create a budget for your packing materials, removal costs and insurance. There’s lots to pay for when your preparing to move home, it’s helpful to have a general idea of all your expenses.
