Does Your Home Have Foundation Issues?

The following contribution is from another author.

If you have been in your home for a while, and initially no foundation problems were found – it doesn’t mean that there aren’t any.

Many of the most significant issues that a home faces aren’t spotted by the owners but by professionals who are doing regular inspections.

There are some common signs of foundation issues that you can look for, and if you happen to spot any, you can book a basement foundation repair.

Cracks

One of the most telling signs of foundation issues is noticing cracks in the walls, floor, and ceiling.

While it is typical for the house to shift slightly over the years, significant cracks could signal that there are more issues in the foundation of your property.

Just because you have cracks doesn’t mean you have foundation issues – it is always worth getting them checked out.

While many of us might dismiss exterior wall cracks, these are just as much an indicator, so make sure you keep an eye on them.

Bouncy floors

While bouncy floors sound fun, they are an indicator that there is a problem with the support of the floor. Poor structural design, foundation settlement, termites, and dampness can all be the cause of this.

Spongy or soft floorboards are a good indication that something is happening that you need to check into.

Drainage

One of the parts of the home that need regular maintenance is the drain. It should be appropriately maintained and cared as it can cause major issues when it isn’t. You can contact a professional hydro jet drain cleaner for completing the job correctly.

While often drainage problems can be a simple blockage, or it could be an issue from the main lines. Drainage issues can also be from foundation issues.

If the terrain of the pipes is unbalanced due to structural issues, this is an issue that will persist until the foundations are repaired, and you will need a plumber too.

Stiff doors

If you notice that the doors and windows in your property are becoming difficult to open and close, this can be an indicator that there are issues with your foundations. The reason doors and windows will become stiff is that the house is no longer being supported in the right places.

Uneven flooring

There are several reasons that your flooring could be uneven. The flooring itself could’ve been laid unevenly, which will need to be rectified. Uneven wooden flooring could be due to the wood used, its treatment, incorrect chemicals during cleaning, or moisture.

Alternatively, the foundations of the home might be having some shifting issues.

If you do have uneven flooring, it can be essential to get in touch with a flooring specialist and have the foundations given a check over too.

More significant foundation problems usually present larger problems, where windows and doors have major cracks around them and most likely damp and mold around your property.

The foundations are just one part of the list of home maintenance you can do to make sure that your home is a safe and secure environment for your family now and in the future. It is important to go through your checklist regularly: Easy Home Maintenance Checklist
