Do you feel as though your home is looking a little worse for wear? If so, then you’ll want to get it sorted out before you even think about listing it on the market. Want some tips to help you with that? Take a look below.
Declutter
You might have noticed this in the past, but a lot of the best-looking homes actually don’t have a lot in them. There is a good reason for this, and that’s because it lessens any distractions. If you can take the time to clear any of your rooms, then this will help your users to focus on the space as opposed to all the stuff that’s in it. Some of the things that you should focus on moving the most include the growing pile of letters that you have and the excess toiletries that you have in the bathroom. Believe it or not, hallways are super important too. They are the entryway to your home, so move any shoes or hanging coats if possible. This will help your viewers to see right through into your property and it will also help you out quite a lot with curb appeal. If you want to try and enhance your rooms, then this will become easier after decluttering. If you want to truly add value then the best way for you to do this would be for you to try and install an attic, or convert the loft space you have now into a living area. If you want to do this, then you should check out the Attic Group as they can take care of any jobs you might need.
Depersonalize
This is very similar to the point mentioned above. Depersonalizing your home is super important as it allows a viewer to imagine themselves living in your home as opposed to having to think about it still being yours. You want your viewers to dream a little if possible. Depersonalizing your home can be tough to do, but at the same time, you have to remember why you are doing it. You can put the pictures of your kids and your graduation photos back up when you have moved out, so keep that in mind if possible.
Improve Lighting
If you talk with any photographer, then they will probably tell you that lighting is so important. Open up your blinds and curtains so that you can let some of the natural light come in. If you are selling during the winter or if you are expecting evening viewers, then it is imperative that you try and add floor lamps and some extra brightness to the places that need it. It may be that you also try and replace some of the bulbs as well as this will make it easier for people to see what your home is all about. It is a known fact that bright rooms often feel way more spacious when compared to rooms that are dim and dark, so make sure that there is enough light in the rooms before you showcase your house to your viewers.
Deal with Smells
Some smells are good and some are bad, but at the end of the day, you have to remember that even the best ones might not help you to sell your home. Your first priority should be trying to eliminate any bad smells first. This could include pet beds, toilets, rubbish bins, musty carpets and more. At the same time, you don’t want to go too overboard with good smells though. You need to try and be as subtle as possible because the last thing that you want is for people to think that you are trying to cover up something in your home. It is wise for you to try and avoid being shy here. Ask a friend for their opinion and try to pinpoint what you can do to fix it.
To-Do List
This might be a bit of a touchy subject, as it depends on how productive or proactive you feel as though you are with your DIY skills. Either way, if you have a huge list of chores that you need to deal with, then you need to tackle them before you list your home on the market. A small job that could easily turn people away from your property would be if you have a ceiling stain, from an overflowing bathtub. Even though you might have dealt with the issue in the past, it doesn’t give the best first impression.
