5 Signs That Your Roof Needs to Be Repaired

Your home’s roof is one of its most important assets, protecting your family and possessions from the elements. It’s essential to keep it in good working order to protect against the potential consequences of failing, such as leaks, breakdowns, or pests. But with so much responsibility, your roof can also be one of the most stressful. When it’s time to call a roofing contractor, make sure your home’s roof stays strong. Here are 5 signs that your roof needs to be repaired to get an expert in before it’s too late.

You notice roofing materials on your property.

The first sign that your roof may need to be repaired is if you notice roofing materials on your property. Damaged roofing materials will often fall from the roof, so if you see any metal parts, shingles, or even insulation materials, this can be a massive indicator your roof has sustained damage. You should call a roofing & window contractor as soon as possible.

You spot internal or external leaks.

A roof’s primary job is to keep water out of your home. So if you notice water seeping through walls, ceilings, or floors, it’s time to get a roofing contractor. Pay attention to drips or leaks on the outside of your property, too, as these can cause structural issues and increased internal damage.

You can see visible damage.

Another sign that your roof may need to be repaired is if you notice visible damage. Many factors can cause visible damage, including extreme weather conditions, pests or debris that has made its way onto your roof, and willful damage from third parties. While it might not be causing issues now, it can do in the future so get any visible damage you see checked out immediately.

Your roof is noisier.

A sign that your roof is beginning to fail is if it’s noisier than usual. This could be due to several things. A noisy roof could be due to damage, an infestation, debris, or excessive moss growing on it. Noisy roofs could mean your roof needs repairs. To find out, have a roofing contractor inspect it. They can use weather devices such as a drone to see all areas of your roof. They can tell you what’s wrong and give you an estimate on the repair if you need repairs.

You notice flashing is separating from the roof.

The final sign that your roof may need repairs is if flashing separates from the roof. Flashing is an integral part of the roof’s structure, and damage suffered to the flashing can reduce your whole roof’s effectiveness and structural integrity. Flashing is the material that surrounds protruding parts of your roof, such as vents and your chimney. If it becomes damaged, water will enter your home, causing untold damage to the structure of your roof and, indeed, the attic space and more. Avoid damage to your roof by carrying out frequent visual checks and getting any concerns addressed and rectified immediately.

  • It’s nice that you talked about how it is time to get a roofing contractor if you notice water seeping though walls, ceilings, or floors. It rained quite heavily yesterday and I noticed some water marks inside our house today. It seems we got some leaks coming from our roof, so we should probably call for some professionals to look into our roof.
