Cheap and Cheerful Ways to Update Your Kitchen

The following contribution is from another author.

If you are looking to update your home over the coming months, then your kitchen may be one of the things that is top of the list. But with the average costs of having a kitchen remodel can cost around $20,000, with costs being able to rise up and over $50,000. No matter how you look at things, the cost can be quite high. But the good news is that you don’t need to spend a fortune to be able to update your kitchen and help to make it look fresh and new. So no matter the state of your kitchen, here are some of the ways that you can give your kitchen an update and a refresh; is there anything else that you would add to the list?

Get new handles and drawer pulls

Being able to change out the units that you have in the kitchen might not be possible for you, as you plan your kitchen remodeling. But if you choose to change out the cabinetry hardware, then it can be a simple, easy, and quick way to update the look of the kitchen and the units themselves. It is a good idea to look out for colorful options for an update, or brushed nickel can look really striking too. Try not to have the handles or drawer pulls being too specific or cutesy, like little spoons for handles, for example. They can look good for a while but can look outdated pretty quickly.

Painting your cabinets

If you aren’t looking to completely change the whole of your kitchen, then there is something that can make it look like you’ve got brand new cabinets. Why not give the cabinets a fresh look with simply a lick of paint? You can sand them down and paint in a new color, or even sand then down and then varnish them in a lighter or darker wood stain to create a different look. The choice is yours, of course, but colors in citrus tones, like orange, yellow and green, can look pretty great in a kitchen.

Paint an accent wall

If your cabinets are looking pretty fine, and don’t need a refresh of their own, then how about adding color with paint to a feature wall instead? As it is a feature or statement wall, then it is a good idea to go darker than you usually would. Say, for instance, you have the a room that is quite light gray, then the accent wall should be darker than the rest (or lighter if the rest of the room is pretty dark).

Pendant lighting

Lighting can make a massive difference to your home, and if you have some old or dated lighting then being able to update it all can make the space look so different. How about replacing the light with a colorful pendant light instead? It is surprising just how different it can make the space look. Lighting and fixtures is something that is pretty inexpensive too.
