9 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Summer

9 Ways to Prepare Your Home for Summer

The following contribution is from another author.

With the warmer days fast approaching, you might be in the process of preparing your home. There is a big difference in the tasks and chores that must be done in your home during the change in seasons. If you are unsure of what needs to be done then take a look at the following list, it might give you some ideas and inspiration.

Fresh Coat Of Paint

If your walls are looking a bit worse for wear then it may be time to brighten these up a bit. If you have paint left over from a previous painting session then you can use this. Alternatively, if you fancy a change then you can get some sample pots to see which colours you prefer. It is always nice to repaint the walls before summer hits. Lighter colours will keep your home cooler than darker colours. They reflect the light rather than keeping hold of it which a dark grey would do.

HVAC Maintenance

If you are lucky enough to have your very own HVAC system running throughout your home then you may already be aware of the maintenance that should be done to it annually. You don’t want to be using your air conditioning system if it is blocked up or letting out polluted air filled with allergens. You will need to replace the AC filters every so often, especially before summer begins. You want to be able to feel the full benefits of owning an HVAC system. Be sure to call out the professionals if you don’t know how to change the filters yourself.

Pack Away The Winter Curtains

If you are a household that has different curtains for summer and winter then it is time to pack away the heavy winter ones. Bring the lighter, cooler summer curtains out and you will notice a difference right away. Be sure to keep them closed in the heat of the day otherwise, you will come home to a pretty hot house. If you don’t want to be woken up early in the morning with the sunlight streaming through your windows then take a look at lined summer curtains.

Clean The Windows

During the summer months, you will probably have your windows open more than any other time during the year. The problem with having your windows open is people will notice them more, this means you should keep them as clean as possible. It also stops the sun from glaring on various debris that is on your window, blinding you early in the mornings. Cleaning your windows may seem like an arduous task but it is always for the best. If you don’t have time to do this yourself then you could contact your local window cleaner to do it for you.

Check The Exterior

Head outside, how does your home look? If you think it has seen better days then it is time to do something about it. If your home exterior is painted then you might want to add a coat or two to brighten it up. If you have trouble with weeds growing on your home then you need to tame these as they can be unsightly. Look at the other houses in your area, are they nice to look at? If the answer is yes, then try to replicate your home to match theirs.

Cut Your Grass

Take a trip to your garden, if you are lucky enough to have a front and back garden then you may think it is a lot of work. If you maintain your garden all year around then it will just be little touch-ups that are needed when summer rolls around. In summer, you will notice that your grass grows at a much quicker rate than it does in winter. This is due to the nutrition it gets from the sun, making it grow twice as fast. If you don’t want to mow your grass or you want a low-maintenance garden due to time or health problems then you might want to look into getting artificial grass fitted.

Clean The BBQ

What does summer mean, smelling the BBQs in the air of course! If you have your very own BBQ then it is time to dust this off and give it a deep clean to get all the debris off from the year. It is wonderful to have a BBQ in the summer, invite all your friends around and make an evening of it. Don’t be the person that just sits in their garden smelling everyone else’s BBQs being used. There are special cleaning kits you can get to ensure your BBQ is cleaned efficiently. Alternatively, there are companies out there who can come to your home and clean the BBQs for you.

Sort The Garden Furniture

If your garden furniture has been stowed away for the winter months then it is time to dust these off and rearrange them in your garden. There is garden furniture that you can leave out all year, however, this is not recommended. Give your furniture a good clean, and get all the cobwebs off it. Spiders are very happy calling your furniture home while you are not using it, even when you are using it. Put the covers back on and enjoy those late summer evenings chilling in your garden. You might also want to invest in a gazebo or parasol as you don’t want the heat getting too much for you.

Arrange Pest Control

Finally, unfortunately, one of the downsides to summer is the pests that you can come face to face with. This includes ants, bees, and wasps. If you find they are making themselves at home in your garden then you can get gadgets to keep these away. If they are making their way into your home, there are a few ideas floating about to keep them away. You can make a natural repellant with just a clear bag, some water, and copper coins. Take a look online to find out how to do this.

We hope you found this article helpful and that it gave you a few ideas on how you can prepare your home for the warmer summer months.
