Creating a Peaceful Spa Bathroom

Creating a Peaceful Spa Bathroom

The following contribution is from another author.

The bathroom serves a few purposes. It is a place to wash, brush teeth, trim hair and all of those other things. But, it also can serve a purpose as somewhere to escape for a few hours. Somewhere to relax and unwind. Although many of us can find that the half-filled bottles of bubble bath and dusty, neglected corners aren’t always the best thing for that much sought after spa feel.

So how can you turn your average bathroom into more of a calm oasis?

Clean Up

Mildew, mould, peeling paint, dust, hair on the walls or the plug, stains in the toilet bowl… and all of that typical bathroom mess. It needs to be tackled. You can’t relax appropriately in a slightly messy or dirty environment. You can choose to clean naturally with things like vinegar and baking soda, or you might get the bleach and disinfectant involved. Whatever you decide, try and pick a neutral smell that won’t interfere with the next steps in the plan.

Spend a few hours cleaning up. Get rid of empty bottles, half crumbled bath bombs, and scrub down the shower head and around the taps.

Choose Your Scents

One of the reasons we feel so relaxed in a spa is because of the fragrances used. Using a mixture of candles, warm wax burners and potpourri. Reed diffusers are great too and long-lasting. In general, you will likely smell these scents at the spa:

Green Tea, Lemon Flower and Jasmine – the lemon lifts your mood, and jasmine is excellent for relaxing you. Green tea has long been associated with relaxation and taking care of your body too.

Lavender – often touted as the most relaxing scent, and the one you will find the most in things to improve sleep and relax the mind enough to soothe you.

Thyme – Although you might think this should just be on your chicken or salads, Thyme has a rich aroma and very homely.

If you are looking for a candle that packs a punch try some Yankee candles, a Jo Malone or a Neom.

Fixture and Fittings

It might be that your bath, shower or even your bathroom vanities needs an overhaul.  If you are still dealing with that full peach or avocado sets from way back when it might be time to get a refit. White is generally your best option as you can kit it out with beautiful candles, a lick of paint on the walls and some gorgeous modern copper or rose gold details. Lighting makes a big difference too.

This is also a great time to pick up some cute storage boxes that can keep your miscellaneous items tucked neatly away and out of sight.

Green

In ever spa, you will find a lot of different plant types. Not only do they purify the air, but the green naturally relaxes you and brings a little bit of the great outdoors inside. Great options are succulents, air plants and spider plants. They do well in the humid conditions that can be in the bathroom.
